(traduction en cours - disponible en anglais seulement)

Judy Gingell and Adeline Webber speak about their experiences and involvement in negotiations of land claim agreements and self-government. The theme for day 1 of the speaker series was on The People Behind the Movement.

Judy Gingell is an Elder and member of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation. For decades, she worked to advance Indigenous rights in the Yukon. She was a founding director of the Yukon Native Brotherhood and was part of the delegation that travelled to Ottawa and delivered Together Today for Our Children Tomorrow to the Prime Minister of Canada in 1973. As chair of the Council for Yukon Indians (now Council of Yukon First Nations) she negotiated and signed Final and Self-Government Agreements.  She was also the first Indigenous person to be appointed Commissioner of Yukon in 1995.

Adeline Webber is an Elder and member of the Teslin Tlingit Council. A longtime advocate for Indigenous rights, she was one of the original members of the Yukon Indian Women's Association (now Yukon Aboriginal Women's Council) and a founder of the Whitehorse Aboriginal Women's Circle. She and her husband were founding members of the Yukon Association of Non-Status Indians that amalgamated with the Yukon Native Brotherhood to become of the Council for Yukon Indians (now Council of Yukon First Nations) where she played an important role in the implementation of land claims and First Nations self-government agreements in the territory. Adeline served as Administrator of Yukon and was appointed Commissioner of Yukon in 2023.
